Willes Opines Canucks May not be Active at Deadline

Let's, for the purpose of our narrative, pretend the Vancouver Canucks didn't deal for David Booth back in October and their second-line winger was now available as the trade deadline approached.
What would that look like? Well, for starters, Booth's future would be a source of endless and excruciating scrutiny. He'd be the subject of a miniseries on Sportsnet and TSN. The blogosphere and Twitterverse would be rampant with speculation about his destination. Various media insiders would judge and weigh him like he was a prize heifer. http://www.theprovince.com/sports/Canucks+quality+Bitz+pieces+might+spell+quiet+trade+deadline/6139139/story.html#ixzz1mHJ6t8UC
Shacks Take: Willes gets this one mostly right, Booth for Sammuelsson & Sturm will seem like a steal come Feb. 27th.  Although Sammuelsson was still a quality forward, age difference clearly makes Booth the choice long-term.  If Bitz and Duco work out the grit in the bottom 6 we'll be just fine.  My only disagreement is in his assessment of the defense.  I believe Allen would help because of his nasty edge.  I don't think the Canucks need an upgrade on talent back there as Tanev will certainly augment the group, but a D-man with a nasty edge would go a long way toward making the Canuck goalies feel secure over the coming months.
