ESPN fires one employee, suspends another over Lin controversy

LOS ANGELES (TheWrap.com) - ESPN has fired one employee and suspended another for using the same racist word in connection to New York Knicks guard Jeremy Lin.

In both cases, an employee used the word "chink" in reference to Lin, a Palo Alto, California, native of Chinese descent. http://www.theprovince.com/entertainment/ESPN+fires+employee+over+racist+Jeremy+headline/6180887/story.html#ixzz1n1wCJxtV

Shacks' Take: Seriously, what planet are these employees from that they think in this day and age with 24/7 coverage, 24/7 oversight and 100% political correctness they could get away with saying/writing something so stupid.  Darwin's law of natural selection is not only that the strong survive but also that the stupid will disappear.  Anyone that thought calling someone of Chinese descent a 'chink' deserves to disappear from the public domain.

I get that this is a big story in part because of his heritage but trying to joke about skin colour or ethnicity has long been the quickest way to the unemployment line. ESPN had no choice in firing and suspending these employees, I'm hoping the former staffers learned a life lesson they should have learned long ago.
