Brule unpacks mental baggage in Phoenix

It is difficult to be a good hockey player when you don't feel like a good person.

No wonder Gilbert Brule never got near the greatness forecast for him when the for-ward from North Vancouver was the sixth player chosen in the 2005 National Hockey League draft headlined by Sidney Crosby.

It is almost impossible to equate the 18-year-old Brule with the 25-year-old player.

Shacks' Take: It's unfortunate a local boy with so much talent hasn't been able to live up to the expectations of his high draft position. Hopefully Brule can put the past behind him and carve out a niche in the NHL even if it's only as a third line centre that chips in on occasion.  It may not be the role anyone thought he would fill just a few short years ago but any spot on an NHL roster is better than a spot on the San Antonio Rampage.
