Tanev playing big role with Canucks

NASHVILLE – Here's how good Chris Tanev has been in his latest stint with the Canucks: You barely notice him out there. That's because the 6-foot-2 22-year-old is usually so poised and usually makes the right decision, he rarely stands out.

"Yeah, and that's a great thing to say about a young defenceman," Kevin Bieksa said. "He goes out there and the coaches have confidence in him against pretty much every line out there. http://www.theprovince.com/sports/Tanev+playing+significant+role+Canucks/6192892/story.html#ixzz1nDSoG8Yf

Shacks' Take: Anyone who watched Tanev perform with Vancouver last year could see the Canucks found themselves a legit NHL rear guard.  If the decision was based on merit alone, Tanev should have been with the big club from the start of the season but Vancouver has eight defensemen ahead of him who's contracts need to clear waivers so stashing him in the minors to play 25 minutes a night was the most convenient thing to do.

I blogged before that Tanev would be with the Canucks before the playoffs and would be the number five defenseman ready for some top four minutes if injuries hit.  He's the reason Vancouver doesn't need to trade for a top four d-man.
