George Johnson Thinks Kiprusoff Vezina Contender

CALGARY — Most likely, it was merely a trick of the light. A refracted reflection from the jumble of TV cameras insidiously crowding in on the first stall to your immediate right upon entering the Calgary Flames' inner compound.

Nothing more than a brief hallucination, perhaps, or one of those crazy, unexplained phenomena you occasionally hear of, like some guy in Memphis swearing he saw Elvis' profile outlined on a piece of cheese at the corner Piggly Wiggly.

And yet … Mightn't that actually have been a halo hovering over Miikka Kiprusoff's head? http://sports.nationalpost.com/2012/02/21/miikka-kiprusoff-quietly-goes-about-vezina-like-business/

Shacks' Take: Somebody in Calgary deserves some kind of reward for keeping this roster within striking distance of the playoffs.  Calgary didn't have the most talented roster to begin with couple that with their injury woes, this team had every right to be challenging Edmonton for worst team in the division.  Kipper has played exceptional this season and deserves at least a nomination for the Vezina.  As for Hart consideration, I'm not a fan of goalies winning the award to begin with but if they do they require stats that are other-worldly.  Miikka's are good, they aren't that good.
