Willes says Schneider’s Value Rising

The title of best backup goalie in hockey might not get you the prettiest girl at the dance, but to fully appreciate Schneider's value consider the following data: Over the last two sea-sons he's 27-9-2 with a save percent-age around the .930 mark and a goals-against average below 2.30, which are Vezina Trophy numbers.

He's done this, moreover, while easing the workload and the pressure on Roberto Luongo, and you can make the case that Schneider's emergence has coincided with the emergence of the Canucks as an elite NHL team.

Did we mention he does all this for $900,000?

So it's a given that Schneider has established himself as an invaluable asset to the Canucks. The next question concerns his value to other teams, and that's where things get interesting. http://www.theprovince.com/sports/Cory+Schneider+value+only+rising/6083329/story.html#ixzz1l9WVsOZM

Shacks' Take:  Willes is obviously lacking for material these days because this was the ultimate in state the obvious articles.  The Canucks have to make a decision on their soon to be restricted free-agent goalie?  Really?  He's been excellent in his role?  Really? The Canucks could make him the centerpiece of a big trade. Really?  Vancouver would need a huge return to trade him before this year's playoffs where he's expected to play a key role.  Really?  Is Ed writing articles for Canuck fans that just started watching the team last week?  C'mon Ed, this is just lazy journalism from a writer who should do much better. He must have had a deadline with no ideas and needed an article he could write in 20 minutes or less.  Either that or he's trying to lower expectations for future articles.
