Wouldn't Steve Yzerman love a goalie like Schneider to build around in Tampa? Wouldn't Ryan Malone be a great fit for Vancouver's needs? There aren't many contending teams that have an asset as valuable as Schneider who is expendable. They need to take advantage. Agree?
Burnside: I would agree with you, my friend, if I thought for a second that Luongo is "the guy" to take that next step and win a Stanley Cup. I agree entirely that GMs who are hesitant or conservative rarely win the big prize http://espn.go.com/blog/nhl/post/_/id/14412/daily-debate-canucks-future-in-net
Shacks' Take: To boil it down, Custance thinks the Canucks have to go for broke and trade their most expendable asset, Burnside thinks the Nucks need Schneider because they can't trust Luongo to not implode through 4 rounds of the playoffs. As painful as it is for me, I have to agree with that ass-clown Burnside. There are no columnist's I respect less than Burnside but his position that Vancouver may need insurance for Luongo's psyche is valid. The Canucks have many other assets that they can move. They seem to have at least one extra forward, several defensive prospects as well as Keith Ballard and draft picks to offer. These are the assets I'd like to see used because Vancouver can likely replace much of the youth they lose when they move Schneider in the summer. They won't be able to replace Schneider in these playoffs if Luongo pulls his flighty act.
