Three way trade sees Downey go to Av’s, Quincey to the Wings and Tampa gets a 1st and a prospect

TAMPA, Fla. -- The Detroit Red Wings acquired defenseman Kyle Quincey on Tuesday in a three-team deal that sent forward Steve Downie from the Tampa Bay Lightning to the Colorado Avalanche.

The Lightning acquired a first-round pick in this year's draft and minor league defenseman Sebastien Piche after exchanging Downie for Quincey with the Avalanche. Tampa Bay then dealt Quincey to the Red Wings for a first-round pick and Piche. http://espn.go.com/nhl/story/_/id/7599166/source-detroit-red-wings-land-kyle-quincey-three-team-trade

Shacks' Take: This trade makes a lot of sense from Detroit and Colorado's point of view, from Tampa's I'm not so sure.  Detroit gets the depth defenseman they need and Quincey will make an excellent 5th d-man.  Colorado gets a pugnacious winger that can add a spark to a young offense.  Tamp Bay gets a draft pick and now has one more hole to fill in the off-season.  Stevie Y must see something he doesn't like in Downey, which should have been buyer beware for the Av's, or he must think he can flip all those draft picks for assets.  Unless Tampa is trying to win the cup in 2017, adding these late first and second round picks won't help their current roster.  The team will still need to fill the holes they're creating in the off-season, I'd love to hear Yzerman's plan.
