PITTSBURGH -- Sidney Crosby's latest concussion-related layoff may not be a concussion after all, but rather a more-treatable neck injury that went undiagnosed for weeks if not months. After meeting with specialists on both U.S. coasts during the last week, the Pittsburgh Penguins captain was told he has a soft tissue injury that is causing swelling in his top two vertebrae. Multiple doctors agreed there is no fracture.
While another concussion has not been ruled out -- he was sidelined for 61 games over two seasons with one -- Crosby was told the neck problem can cause symptoms much like those associated with a concussion. http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=386553
Shacks' Take: The facts of the article are nothing but good news. We may see Sidney back sooner than later and his symptoms may not be concussion related. Nothing would be better than seeing Canada's best player, healthy and happy. My fingers are crossed. As for the speculation part, the rift between player and team, blah, blah, blah. Until I hear Sid say he wants out of Pittsburgh this is more bored media speculation. In fact, too many articles seem to contain both fact and unfounded speculation. Great if it's a columnist, kinda wrong when it's a news report form AP.
