Sean Gordon thinks Habs in limbo at trade deadline

Perhaps the situation is best described in economics-ese, by borrowing a term like "seller's dilemma."  Whatever frame you choose, the Montreal Canadiens are in the full throes of whatever "it" is.

In the countdown to the Feb. 27 NHL trade deadline, the Habs are six points out of the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, and with three games over the next six days – two of them against conference opponents, including one with the faltering Washington Capitals – hope to narrow the gap. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/hockey/habs-caught-in-limbo-between-buy-sell/article2344316/

Shacks' Take: I'm not sure why teams like the Habs are confused.  First they've already shown part of their hand by moving Todd Gill.  More importantly, this is a team that has the chance of hoisting the cup this year the Victoriaville Tigres, none.  Sure there's a slim chance of Montreal making the playoffs but don't they have a slim chance of making the playoffs while making moves that increase their chances for the coming years?  I'm sure Pierre Gautier's not confused on what direction to go, even if many of the moves he's made indicate he may be terminally confused.
