Spector thinks San Jose’s window may be closing

SAN JOSE -- It is known in the business as the Shark Trap, and we've all been caught in it.
For me, I was stuck inside the jaws from about '04 to '07. I picked 'em to win the Stanley Cup at least twice, maybe three times over that span.
Still trapped within the Sharks vortex is my esteemed colleague Pierre LeBrun, who stubbornly declared a few years ago that he will pick the Sharks to win the West every year until they finally do. We all laughed.
Now, he may retire first before the Sharks win a Cup. More…
Shacks’ Take:  Let’s face it, San Jose is a team that should no longer be considered among the elite.  They had a great run, well a good run, ummm actually they’ve had the most disappointing run of any team in my memory, considering I hate research.  Has there ever been another team that was considered among the top 5 teams for such an extended stretch that never hoisted the cup, let alone made a cup final?  Last years run to the conference finals was nice but Vancouver exposed them for their lack of quality defense and the trades they made in the summer to fix the problem only served to weaken their group of forwards while barely improving their over-all talent on the back end.
Until further notice San Jose, I can’t consider San Jose as a threat to win it until they’re actually competing for the cup
