First, let’s quibble.
Why isn’t it a power-play goal when a team scores at the 120th second of
a power play?
That’s what David Booth did on Saturday night, beating Ryan Miller at
15:37 of the second period after Alex Sulzer had gone off for high-sticking at
13:37.
In the NHL, two minutes comprises 119 seconds, apparently.
Regardless, it didn’t count as a power-play goal, despite the fact it
was 5-on-4 all the way…More:
Shacks’ Take:
McIntyre
makes some good points here the power play has struggled and the Sedins and
Kesler haven’t produced like in the past.
The reality is though, it’s a long season and there’s always an ebb and
flow through different periods in the season.
To start the season the Canucks power play performed at a pace that was
impossible to maintain and now they’re struggling at a rate that’s unlikely to
become the norm. Also, as Ian mentioned,
the league has really stumbled in their crack down on clutching and grabbing
again for some reason and the lack of calls is likely taking a toll on the
rhythm of the specialty unit. I’m sure
with a little patience we will see the numbers come back to their usual pace
once again.
