Panthers add RB Tolbert to RB stable – Fantasy Take

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Carolina Panthers have added more depth to their already deep stable of running backs.
The Panthers announced Monday they've signed free agent Mike Tolbert from the San Diego Chargers. Tolbert spent three seasons with Ron Rivera, who was the Chargers' defensive coordinator before becoming the Panthers' coach. More…
We will miss the fat man dance if Newton
vultures all the TD's.
Shacks’ Take: This move makes no sense to me.  A team that hardly used the running game last year because of Cam Newton adds another back when they already have two excellent backs in D’Angelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart.  I’m really not sure how this will end up but unless one of the other backs is traded Tolbert has no fantasy value whatsoever.
Last year Newton vulture most of the goal line love from Stewart and Williams, making them both almost unusable.  Even if one of the other backs is traded, I would still only grade Tolbert as a low end RB#3.  If neither of the other backs is traded, he will plummet to a low end RB#4.  Wait to see how this one breaks down but I doubt the name Mike Tolbert will be on my tongue draft day regardless.
