Oilers send Paajarvi back down to minors

EDMONTON - Is the demotion of Edmonton Oilers left-winger Magnus Paajarvi to the Oklahoma City Barons only for a few days or is it for the rest of the season?

NHL teams routinely send prospects to their American Hockey League farm clubs during the all-star break so they get in game action.

Fans shouldn't be surprised that the Oilers dispatched Paajarvi, Teemu Hartikainen and Taylor Chorney to the Barons Wednesday. The question is how long the 20-year-old Paajarvi will stay in the AHL. He hasn't scored a goal and has just has four assists in 33 NHL games this season.

Shacks' Take: The kids only 20 and he's Swedish, quite frequently it takes foreign players longer to adjust.  He's got a load of talent and trading a player when they are at their lowest means the Oil woud be getting 60 cents on the dollr for him. Look to Vancouver who got Marcus Naslund because Pittsburgh had seen flashes but he didn't develop fast enough for them or the Sedins who looked like busts until they were 23.  You just gotta wait on those Swedes.
