Canucks prospect Kevin Connauton picking up his game

ABBOTSFORD — Kevin Connauton is on pace to shatter his offensive numbers from last year, going against the grain of the maligned sophomore jinx.

Now 42 games into his second American Hockey League season, the 21-year-old defenseman and Canucks third-round pick in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft has 10 goals and 21 points with the Chicago Wolves.  That's impressive considering in his rookie campaign with the Manitoba Moose last year, he notched 11 goals and had 23 points in 73 regular season games. http://www.vancouversun.com/sports/Canucks+prospect+Kevin+Connauton+picking+game/6051563/story.html#ixzz1kZyqIoBs

Shacks' Take: Vancouver is sorely lacking in high-end prospects right now so they must be praying Connauton works out.  He's one of a very few prospects the Canucks have to dangle if they want that final push for the cup.  If not he's one of the few cheap players they'll have in the coming years to help keep them below the salary cap.  The Canuck's desperately need this guy to keep improving.
