If the Boston Bruins repeat their 2011 Stanley Cup run again this
spring, then St. Patrick's Day may be remembered as their turning point.
This has nothing to do with Boston's unofficial title as the Irish
capital of North America, and the attendant thousands of green-clad revelers
all over the city on Saturday, and everything to do with the Bruins finally
rediscovering their game. For the last two months, the Bruins frittered away
first their NHL Eastern Conference lead and then the Northeast Division lead
because their once-solid defensive game fell apart. More…
Boston has managed to up their intensity when needed. |
Shacks’ Take: I just wanted to throw this one in to show what I
mean. Boston was cruising along in
January and seemed destined for a top 2 seed.
They’ve looked bored and disinterested for months but now that push
comes to shove and their slump is actually threatening their playoff life,
Boston is ratcheting it up again.
It’s hard to manufacture desperation, you either are or you
aren’t. Good teams should be able to
play when the stakes are highest. Boston’s
turnaround should give Canuck fans hope the local side will be able to right
the ship when the stakes matter.
