The San Francisco 49ers have acquired New York Giants wide receiver
Mario Manningham with a two-year contract, a league source confirmed to Scout.
Manningham became an instant hero in New York last month with his
tiptoe, 38-yard catch down the sideline to launch the Giants' game-winning
drive against the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLVI. Most believed that
play also made him a much hotter commodity on the free-agent market.
Pro Football Talk first reported the Manningham deal, and later agent
Drew Rosenhaus confirmed the deal to the Associated Press. More…

Wait to see who his QB is before drafting this man. |
Shacks’ Take: Manningham’s value is directly tied to who the
49er’s get to play quarterback this year.
Mario is still likely a WR#3 on this team behind Moss and Crabtree. If Smith resigns, he’s a low end WR 3 or 4 on
your fantasy team. If Manning signs, he
becomes a borderline top 25 guy. If
neither signs and San Fran is stuck using Colin Kaepernick at QB, he’ll be
barely a blip on the fantasy radar. Stay
tuned for more on the entire 49er’s forecast once they’ve decided on a QB (or
in Manning’s case a QB has decided on them).
