In this market, perspective is harder to find than a contact lens on a
sandy beach. But, for a lark, let's try to apply it to the Vancouver Canucks'
season, anyway.
When reviewing their campaign, it's hard to find more than a couple of
players who are enjoying better years in 2011-12 than they did in their magical
2010-11 season.
The production of the Sedin twins is way down. Ryan Kesler, who scored
41 goals last season, had 22 before last night's game with the Colorado
Avalanche. Roberto Luongo isn't having the year he had last year. Mason
Raymond's numbers are down. So are Manny Malhotra's. They're also missing
Christian Ehrhoff's 50 points from the blueline. More…
Shacks’ Take: This is awesome stuff from Ed considering he is
one of the biggest reasons Canucks’ fans have been lacking perspective as I
pointed out here,
here
and here.
Suddenly from Ed's view the Canucks are on the right track. |
Now that the Canucks have won four in a row, Willes writes that Canuck
fans have no perspective and that the Canucks are still a stellar team. This, despite months of implying the Canucks
were doomed, might be some of the most hypocritical stuff I’ve read.
Ed you’ve fed the masses panic for months, now you want to be the voice
of reason? Is this a set up? Could you be trying to incite the panic, then
ride in when the Canucks win and claim you were the voice of reason in sea of
dread? Are there hidden cameras on me right now to see if my head will explode
from all the contradictions?
He mentions putting things in perspective three times in this article,
which is weird since that’s what I’ve had to mention every time I’ve done a take
on his articles since January.
Funny thing is, this article is likely his smartest since he started his
articles of impending doom a few months ago for exactly the reason he mentions.
Ed finally steps back and looks at things with the larger picture in mind
instead of seeing the negatives from a team that’s trying to find motivation
from meaningless games.
The Canucks are still one of the top teams in the league, they have a
better idea what it takes to go all the way and they are focused on the big trophy
not the individual awards.
I think Ed could go a long way to giving the local fans the right attitude
about how to view their team if he stayed the course on this whole perspective
thing. Unfortunately, I think once the
Canucks lose a game or two, this Brother of Doom will return to his sky is
falling routine. At least that’s how it
appears from this perspective.
