PRESIDENTS’ TROPHY: Just two points back of the New York Rangers and St. Louis
Blues in overall standings after Saturday’s win, the Canucks have a serious
shot at a second-consecutive Presidents’ Trophy and home ice throughout the
playoffs. With just seven games remaining, the Canucks find themselves in a
position to push for that laurel rather than rest players with the second
conference seed locked up. Do you push for it?

Shacks’ take: I understand Canuck fans and pundits desire to see
the Canucks go into the playoffs riding high and on top of the league but to me
it’s just not a big deal. First in the
league, second in the league third in the league, they’re all the same once the
playoffs start. The most important thing
is to be healthy and playing decently.
Will Kesler last the playoffs if he doesn't kill himself trying to win the President's trophy? I hope so. |
The
Canucks busted their humps to run away with the league last season and
attrition took such a toll on the team that by the time they reached the finals
they were duct taping body parts together to field a healthy line-up. Is there an advantage to establishing your spot
in the playoffs early and resting your players so they’re healthy for the
playoffs versus playing hard to the end so you’re on top your game going into
the playoffs?
I
don’t know. What I do know, they tried
playing hard right to the end last year and ran out of gas by the end so I’m
willing to see how the other way works this year. If that doesn’t work, I hope there’s a plan ‘C’.
