NEW YORK -- Gary Carter was nicknamed "Kid" for good reason.
His smile, bubbly personality and eagerness to excel on a ballfield made him a joy to watch at the plate and behind it.
Even his Hall of Fame bronze plaque at Cooperstown shows him with a toothy grin -- the Kid forever.
The star catcher, the first player enshrined in the Hall of Fame wearing an Expos cap, died Thursday. He was 57. http://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/2012/02/16/carter_expos_passing/
Shacks' Take: Although most fans remember Carter for his World Series heroics with the Mets, I'll always remember him as an Expo. He was part of a Montreal team when they became the relevant team in Canada well before the Blue Jays began winning pennants. I was always more of an Expos fan than Jays fan because of 'the kid' Gary Carter, 'the Hawk' Andre Dawson and 'the Rock' Tim Raines. I hope Carter knew the impact he and his team had on the entire country of Canada. He will be missed.
