DETROIT (AP) -- Free agent first baseman Prince Fielder and the Detroit Tigers agreed Tuesday on a nine-year, $214 million contract that fills the AL Central champions' need for a power hitter, a person familiar with the deal said.
CBS first reported the agreement. http://cnnsi.com/2012/baseball/mlb/01/24/tigers.fielder.ap/index.html?sct=hp_t2_a6&eref=sihp
Shacks' Take: Can a dude that big stay healthy and motivated through a full nine years. I'm sure this will help Detroit for at least a couple years but if Prince's bat speed slows even a little in his 30's this contract is going to end very badly.
